Cleethorpes Car Show

The 3rd annual Performance and Modified Car Show 7th & 8th June 2003.
In aid of When You Wish Upon A Star.

The Show
The Max’d Car Club’s own show was a huge success this year. If we are totally honest we expected it to be a flop due to the lack of interest we had just a few weeks before the show was due to take place. We have a lot of people from our own club and all the other car clubs that attended to thank for helping our show be a good one. Some people travelled to the show ground on the Friday night and camped over to prove just how keen they were. The weather was good all weekend, which raised people’s spirits, which also set the scene for a great show.

The Saturday of our show was quiet due to it being a gathering day but we still had a fair few cars on display. Members from both our own club and the visiting clubs still travelled to support the show. One of our very own members from Scotland travelled down to support the show just for the Saturday as he had other commitments for the Sunday - Thanx Sandy. For those who camped on the Saturday night we put on a barbeque and had a kick around which seemed to bring everyone together - resulting in a good laugh for all and a few full bellies, mentioning no names - Richard Barnes hee-hee-hee!!

On the main day of our show (which was the Sunday) we had approx 90 cars on display. Ford Mondeo Enthusiasts Club, Ford RS Owners Club, Peugeot Gti Owners Club, Vauxhall Sports Car Club and Gloyn Boyz Club were among the several car clubs that came along to support our show. The show ground soon filled up and this obviously attracted a record crowd for the Sunday. The whole ground was buzzing not only with the people displaying the cars but the visiting public too.

The highlight of the show for myself & Jo and no doubt many others was seeing Andrew a young boy from the charity ‘When You Wish Upon A Star’ getting his dream ride in Justin’s 348 TB Ferrari and then Colin’s Lotus Esprit SE V8 which are a part of a new business venture called Super Car Promotions. The idea being anyone wishing to go for a ride in this kind of car can do so for a set fee. Yep - that’s right you can be driven around in a Super Car! If this sounds cool then call Justin on 01724 - 341250 or Colin on 01724 - 762161. They will fill you in with all the details and arrange it all for you.

Trophie Awards & Raffle
We had a voting system which included each of the clubs involved voting for all the cars on display and as a result of that we gave away 10 trophies this year. We also had a couple of raffle prizes donated to help raise more money for our chosen charity. Alan Tofton of AT Auto’s (01472-250605) who kindly donated a Cat 2 Cobra immobiliser including fitting which was initially won by Andy one of the Yorkshire lads who came with Dean & Richie but he very kindly put it back up for grabs as he already has a Cat 1 immobiliser. On the second draw it was won by Gaz Gloyn who was over the moon and now has it fitted.

Derek from Texaco Auto Care (07812-988912) who supply a wide range of cleaning and presentation products awarded a valeting kit to Matthew Fensom who owns a 2.0 Cavalier. This was for the amount of effort Derek felt had been put in by Matthew and his cleaning crew!!!! Ha-ha-ha!

Mick & Al at Immingham Spray Bay (01469-577880) - the guys responsible for the paint work on some of the world Super Bikes, kindly donated a huge Auto Glym Car Care case/kit, which was won by Andy from Yorkshire Region.

Big Thanks!!!
At this point we are not 100% sure how much money was raised for ‘When You Wish Upon A Star’ as we are waiting for the invoice to come through from our local Council for the hire of the grounds we held the show on. Things are looking good already for next year as we already have two of the visiting car clubs that entered into the show this year provisionally book spaces for next year.

This is the part where we need to say a very big thanks to all that helped with this show.

To Matt who worked the gate alone this year, as our other attendant was ill. Myself and a few other members did a short stint and this made us realise just how much of a rock you were mate! He loved the job that much he has already offered his services for next year - top man!!!!!.

Thanks to David Hooper and Jim Cartwright at the Evening Telegraph for promoting this event for us - a top job guys - Thank you.

Thanks to Helen Andrews and all at Smart & Cook Ltd, for supporting the event by providing the events insurance just as they have done for the last two events.

Thank you to Derek from Texaco Auto Care for supporting the show for the second year running.

We would like to thank Lee at Big Cat Technologies for supporting the event and for the use of his equipment for presenting the trophies.

Thank you to all the companies that donated prizes to help raise more much needed cash.

Thanks to Neil and Taffy for helping to clear the grounds ready for its inspection.

Thanks to Jamie & Dawn for taking all the piccies for this write-up.

Last but no means least, thank you to all the car clubs that attended the show including Max’d, for making this show happen, as without your support this show would not have been possible!
