Saturday June 7th 2008 and this was hopefully the calm before the storm and not in a literal sense as we were all hoping for a dry sunny day unlike the day we had been having which was wet and raining on and off!
The time was 4.30p.m and the few of us that were setting up the grounds turned up to mark out and sort out spaces. This was a task and a half as we were new to the grounds and everything was proving to be harder than we thought to set up.
We had a good team of helpers who gave up their time to come and help us set up and take out the show direction signs and put them up! Roy, Chris, Danny, Ian &Theresa, Matt, Matty B, Cappo, Ian & Caz, Karl & Trina along with Jo and myself got to work.
After a lot of re-jigging we got everything as ready as could be for show day.
There was nothing new however about the finishing touches as in previous years we were late to bed but, the new record by 45mins at 2.45am had been broken and boy did we know it!
Show day and we were up at 6.15am and we really felt like we hadn’t even been to bed at all, but as with anything this important you seem to find inner strengths that carry you on.
June 8th 2008 will go down in the Max’d Car Club show history as being the biggest and best show organised by ourselves for the charity ‘When you wish upon a Star’.
This year saw us at a new venue which we had no idea whether it would be a success or not but with the picturesque layout of The Humberston School and the weather being awesome with the temperatures due to reach 27 degrees in the sun the scene was set.
This awesome weather was of course due to the appearance in the area of the one and only Legend that is Reverend Bob (Rob Hallam) and his trusty sidekick Steve the cameraman who had informed me earlier in the week that he had spoken to “The Big Man Upstairs” and he assured us we would get a blisteringly hot day to make all our hard work setting up the show worth while, as the “Big Man” looks down upon those who help the needy or something like that any way!

The turnout of cars was truly stunning with the biggest and most varied gathering of cars our area has seen, with people travelling form all parts of the country to help support this very much up and coming show to raise much needed cash for the children’s charity. We had so many cars coming in the gate at once that Matt and Ro on the gate worked even harder than normal and this meant that Jo and myself had to get extra help during the day from other club members:
Danny he marshalled the cars into their correct places – top job!
Theresa and Ian then took over from Matt and Ro and did a stint on the gate- top job!
The cars just kept coming in from 7.15am and never seemed to stop right up until 9.45am and the odd one arrived even after than. The sights and sounds alone were awesome especially for myself when the awesome sight and sound of the Skyline Owners Club.com turned up with the thundering six cylinder Japanese beasts and set up an awesome display for the public to feast their eyes on. There was also a good train of Subaru’s from East Yorkshire Impreza Owners Club, which looked and sounded awesome as they rolled in with lots of other cars from:
Jap Torque, Jap North East, Evo-Nuts, Lincs Torque, Ford RS Owners, Yorkshire Ford Owners Club, All-Vxl, Hull Cruise, Gloyn Boyz, Black Cat Customs, Trent Valley Mini Owners Club, Doncaster Modified, Mondeo Enthusiasts Club and a few various visiting exhibitors.
"The biggest and most varied gathering of cars our area has seen"

The one car that a certain young lad had been waiting for was due to arrive and he was getting more excited when he heard it come in.
It was Rob with the awesome yellow Lamborghini Gallardo. The crowds just seemed to shoot over to the car like metal to a magnet and it was a pretty similar case with Phil and his awesome Audi R8 which, had him answering questions all day long (thanks to you both for your support).

awesome prizes for people to win as a raffle prize through “When you wish upon a Star. To make sure they were noticed they brought along a top show Audi TT and Max Power Babe Naomi with her own modified motor.
By midday the show was in full swing and the judging was coming to a close, Reverend Bob was due to make an appearance and the people from the clubs had no idea where he was going to turn up and do the usual light hearted and sometimes down right cheeky interviews for the soon to be produced DVD.
He went about his interviews and Steve was filming people with their cars and taking lots of general footage of the show including a roving view from a slow moving camera car which is to be added into the DVD.

This year saw a good turnout of traders with some awesome cars being brought to be shown off to the public.
Nunns Mitsubishi had the all new Evo10 whilst Grimsby Mercedes had the truly awesome AMG cars and the ex F1 pace car SLK on show.
Hartwell group brought along the new 350Z and the all new Megane Sport whilst Wilson and co brought along a VXR and Imperial Ford brought the ST range.
New to the show this year was also Formula Uno a clothing and model car specialist who sell genuine manufacturers brand clothing which seemed to go down very well!
CC Restorations were on hand with an array of vehicles and even a Scooter which seemed to get a lot of attention.
Javelin Motorsport were also on hand to chat to people about the very fast growing hobby, that is now really becoming a very good way to safely drive your car in a safe environment as well as to teach you the best possible way to get to grips with your car under all kinds of circumstances. Andy also gave the charity a very neat pedal go-kart to be raffled off and was on hand to present a personal choice trophy.

Our local Motoring journalist David Hooper who was responsible for arranging the sponsorship of the trophies by the Grimsby Evening Telegraph had nothing but praise for the show and said he hadn’t realised how big a job he faced in picking his Grimsby Telegraph “Car of the Show”. It was an amazingly difficult job with such a high standard of car on display to pick a final winner but, in the end something which was close to my own heart won and that was the McRae and Richard Burns memorial tribute Subaru of Jim “Yatey” Yates from the East Yorkshire Impreza Owners Club.

By the time the trophies were being readied for presentation at 3.30pm Jo and myself along with everyone else around us were showing signs of heat exhaustion but it was as always the trophies which were the highlight of the day. The crowds gathered around the gazebo and we got ready along with Martyn Bell BTCC driver, Max Power’s Lee and Naomi and Matt from local Mitsubishi Dealer, Nunns who were there to present his personal choice prizes.

Reverend Bob who was doing a sterling job as always was getting the crowd going in the way only he knows how and got them doing a very well choreographed Mexican wave which got everyone shouting and cheering. The trophies were given out and the crowds were all cheering as the winners stepped up to collect their trophies and smile for the camera as proud winners. The day could not have gone better as the crowd were all behind the winners and the show at the all new venue was deemed a real success by all! As with all good things they have to come to an end so we said our goodbyes to all the people who had made the day so special in every way. As always we said a fond farewell to Rev Bob, Steve and their partners and as always hope they will come back for an even bigger and better 2009 show so watch this space!!!
All the trophies this year were sponsored by the Grimsby Evening Telegraph.
