Donny Show

2005

The Show
After much anticiaption the morning of the first major show for the Max'd bunch was a really fine one which in itself was a miracle as Donny is reknown for being especially cold and usually very wet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Having already taken my Skyline down to Donny on the Friday to be joined by Phil's Celica inside the Autoglym Top 50 in Britain competition I had to take a taxi to Donny on the Saturday morning so it was pleasing for me to be taxi'd in my old Cavalier Turbo by its new owner and friend Turbo Teza! We met up at the Shell station all bright and early and for once all on time!! (yet more miracles) We assembled all the cars for the usual pre show meet up group shots for the show reports and all had a good natter about what we were looking forward to and what we expected the weather to do!! (rain came to mind alot). The time had come to set off so we all piled into our trusty mota's and proceeded to Donny in bright sunshine which was a real blessing for those who had been up all hours getting their machines gleaming ready to start the show season with the club really shining amoung its rivals!

We arrived at Donny services after a nice controlled drive and some in car video work from Team Danby Saxo and his co pilot! When we arrived at Donny services (once again on time and yet another miracle ) everyone got out of their cars and had a good old natter to the Max'd members with all eyes on each others cars to see what each and everyone had been doing in the cold dark non show winter period!!!!!!!!!! It was interesting from my point of view as I was without my little "beast from the east" and could see and hear all the winter stories and all the horrors of the weeks running upto show day! After everyone had got back in their cars we set off for the drive to Donny show and I had the job of being the on board camera man for the second stint ,this was to get Team Danby's Saxo in on the action which was all well and good but whilst trying to steady the camera and avoid being skyward under acceleration I found it quite a challenge!!! We arrived at Donny with a very worthy group of top motors and I was proud of the clubs turnout and of all the effort people had made to show everyone just how serious we are about our cars and the quality we want to maintain throughout the shows this year!!! It was the time I dreaded most, setting up all the cars and getting them into the right spaces and ensuring all the cars would fit! This was as usual very trying for me and all on display with me having to move most of the peeps several times to try and obtain the best possible result. At last all the cars were on display and everyone was hard at work polishing their motors so that they could show off the car in its element and best of all beautifull (not Donny) sunshine.

I went into the top 50 dispaly and set about a whole days cleaning and yet more cleaning followed by polishing and yet more polishing! I then had to make sure I was available as and when the 6 judges wanted to check out the car for the different class trophies and all the relevant marks out of ten per section! This meant I was tied to my car all day answering so many questions that my already virus strained voice had given up by late afternoon! The time had come to leave for home and once again I had to be Taxi'd home but this time by Mick (Cooper Man) in his mini which was again a nice ride home and I was getting quite used to this life of being ferried around!

When I woke up on day 2 l could not believe the weather! Yet another Donny miracle with yet another dry, bright and sunny day to which all of us were not accustomed to as Donny is notoriously wet and very cold at least one day! We all met as on the Saturday and met up wit hall the rest at Donny services as we did on the Saturday once again all on time! (the miracles were working overtime!)
We all drove down to Donny and once again set up the cars with everyone setting about polishing their motors over and over to impress all that checked them out!!!!!!!!

I proceeded to the top 50 hall and spent yet another day cleaning and polishing and showing the judges around the car several times trying to impress them more as the day went on wit hall the cleaning i had been doing on the two days! The time had come for the announcement of the Autoglym Top 50 in Britain awards and we all told to make our way over to the presentation area. The awards were being presented to the winners and I was amazed to find that on its first outing since its winter makeover my little Skyline had won me the Best Interior/upholstery award 2005 ,I was overwhelmed very pleased to have won a prize as I had not expected to win at all !!!!!!!!!!!
